If you have concerns about the mental health of someone you are caring for, or perhaps you are concerned about your own mental health, there is a range of information on this website that might be useful. There are also links below for services relating more specifically to carers, providing a range of services including advice and information, practical and emotional support, and counselling for carers.
If you are concerned about the mental wellbeing of someone you care for, often the best first step is to speak to that person’s GP, who can initially give you information relating to your concerns, and possibly provide reassurance. Remember that a GP can’t provide specific information about a patient without their consent, but if it appears to the GP that the person you’re caring for might need a full assessment of their mental health, they might suggest a GP appointment so that a referral to a specialist mental health service can be made if appropriate.
